Celebrating With a Mission

Celebrating With a Mission

Every event is special but there are times when there truly is a “cause to celebrate.” On October 23, Smith & Wollensky and Boston Common co-hosted a Green Carpet Event to honor and announce the partnership with The Mission Continues. The organization awards fellowships to post-9/11 veterans to enable them to continue to serve their community when they can no longer serve the country.

The Smith & Wollensky Boston Back Bay location was the perfect backdrop to celebrate the veterans. Known as “The Castle,” the former armory was home to the First Corps of Cadets and the walls permeate with the rich history of America’s military.

Michael Feighery, President of Smith & Wollensky, welcomed the guests and stressed the importance of honoring America’s veterans and giving back after they sacrificed so much. The Mission Continues Chief Operating Officer and a veteran himself, Spencer Kympton, introduced two program Fellows, Natasha Young and Jeff Hall. A stillness fell over the room as the two gave moving descriptions of how their service through The Mission Continues impacted their lives and gave them a sense of accomplishment in their communities. General Manager Richard Cheshul and Chef de Cuisine Jason Wagner provided the hospitality and food tasting of new Fall Menu.

The event served as a way to call attention to the amazing success stories of The Mission Continues across the country, as well as a fundraiser. Guests had the opportunity to donate through a silent auction and raffle for a wide variety of gifts from event partners. Kim Lapine, VP of Marketing, introduced the Smith & Wollensky “Private Reserve” Wine Gift Pack, which will be available to purchase November 1 throughout the holiday season with proceeds benefiting The Mission Continues.

The Gift Pack consists of the “Private Reserve” Meritage from Girard Winery and “Private Reserve” Sauvignon Blanc from Kunde Family Estate. Guests sampled both wines throughout the night.

Fall flavors were showcased in beverages as well, with Samuel Adams pouring their seasonal Octoberfest in addition to Boston Lager and Samuel Adams Light. Gosling’s Rum featured an Orange Cider Martini, Dark ‘n Stormy® cocktail and their Family Reserve Old Rum.
