Continuing in the holiday spirit of giving back, the Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group hosted appreciation dinners to honor support staff, families and friends impacted by autism. Honorees were nominated and selected for their commitment and dedication to raising awareness of autism spectrum disorder or for making a significant impact in the lives of individuals with autism.
On February 7th, Smith & Wollensky in Washington D.C. hosted Chris and Theresa Waddell from Arlington, Virginia. Chris and Theresa are raising two autistic boys and have gone above and beyond to raise awareness and support for other families in their situation. Pioneers of the “puzzle piece” autism awareness ribbon, they support the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) and Chris has served as President of the Autism Society Nova chapter. They have built a foundation to their investment firm with a focus on helping families fund trusts for children with special needs. To help local families with autistic children find activities specialized for them, they host free screenings of popular children’s movies with partial lighting and lowered sound to accommodate the children’s needs.
Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group is a proud supporter of the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. For more information on the foundation’s grants and programs, please visit www.flutiefoundation.org.
